Feb. 3rd-4th Salamanca- enchanting town

Oh Salamanca! We had so much fun there, as it was our first hotel stay. First we had a guided tour, you can even see the little lady in one of these photos. We saw a Cathedral whose entrance included the newly added detail of a sculpted astronaut in the wall. Can you see it?
Walking to the Plaza (the building with the flags) we caught a glimpse of Cervantes in the many faces sculpted in the balcony of the plaza's left side; then we decided to ask some locals where a good and cheap tapas bar could be found- they recommended Cervantes, so we went there, swallowing our pride against too touristy places, and found that it was a lot of fun! You can see the painting of Cervantes and Sancho Panza with a few rifles next to it on the wall, a tin coke box that shows its inevitable global popularity, and us messing around at our table--yup, beer sure is cheaper than water here in Spain and we got a whole jarra (pitcher) for a better price than my 3 friends' water bottles. Ordering tap water is kind of weird here in Spain. It's also seen as strange and sad if you are caught eating alone-- oops-- which I plan on doing sooner or later.

After lunch we walked around to find a farmacia. Apparently in Spain most people go to there local pharmacist whereas we Americans prefer a doctor's office. We found a bright yellow German candy store instead, which ended up being an expensive chain store.
Later on at night we had a cena or dinner with the entire program, and the singing group pulled me out on top of a chair so that they can serenade me! They were pretty good. One man played the tamborine intensely- I swear he must have hit his chest, chin, and shoulder with that thing pretty hard and he even rolled on the floor while slapping it on his knees. Not your usual Rancheras group or Mariachis or anything, but still okay. Did I mention we found a store called Joaquin Moreno?
